Mu and her lovely chicks are doing well and out on the ground for the first time. They are about a week old now and have proper feathers coming on their wings.

What a surprise this morning! 8 chicks now hatched out and all looking great!
Mu's eggs have just about finished hatching now with only the last one to go and 'she' is almost out.

Mu, our black silkie, was adamant she was going to be broody so we scrambled to get together some of our pekin eggs for her to sit on. She has done a fine job of looking after her eggs and we are all now reaping the rewards with fluffy little chicks emerging.

All Grown UP!

My, how they grow! The chicks are now almost 7 weeks old and have changed so much. They look like proper chickens now that they have come through the 'scratty' transition stage.

Fifi, our white pekin, is a great mother and looks after her children like a pro. Here her chicks are 3 weeks old and their wings are feathering up well. She hatched out these 3 chicks from 5 eggs. They are a white silkie and 2 silver partridge pekins. It really is satisfying to see mum and chicks going about their business so contentedly, just as nature intended it! It beats hatching using an incubator any day, eventhough sometimes, I suppose, needs must!
